life ~ a photostory

  ~ a life update in the form of a photostory ~ this is truly Julia's aesthetic, entirely by accident, most of her closet is blue and white stripes. she's always either wearing her airplane propeller necklace or her dream necklace, wearing double dutch braids.  Once upon a time, there was a girl named Julia. She was a dreamer, one with a good imagination and wide horizons. Some of her happiest days as a teenager were spent taking photos of dolls, lying in the street to get the perfect angle. Her dolls were like built in friends, companions wherever she went, on trips and vacations and outings.  As she grew up, Julia grew busier and busier, and high school was a lot of work. But she had goals and she did everything she could to reach them. One of them was graduating two years early, which took up a lot of time and energy. After hours upon hours of studying, she finally graduated.  Taking a gap year beginning in 2020, the weirdest year of the century, she had no lack of other thi

The Christmas Craft Collab: No. 4, Gingerbread Galore!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm warning you in advance. This adorable dreamland candy house... tastes nasty.
I'm kidding, guys. XD Well, not really. It's not meant to be eaten, so yes, it's nasty. But seriously, this is SUCH a fun, fun, fun project! The real warning? It might take a bit of time. BUT DON'T BRUSH IT OFF.
However, before you launch into this with me, head over to Delightful World of Dolls and check out those awesome golden coins! (In case you were wondering, each week has a theme. You might have figured that out already. But anyway, this week is food. or last week. Yeah, anyways.... NOTE: THIS IS A WEEK LATER 'CAUSE THE WIFI GOT KNOCKED OUT BECAUSE OF SNOW - hint hint... snow photoshoots, anyone?)
Wanna launch into this awesome craft tutorial on a doll-sized gingerbread house? Of course! Read on, oh wonderful reader! *facedesk* That sounded really bad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
YOU WILL NEED:

- craft foam (brown and white)
- cardboard
- boring tools (scissors, ruler, craft knife - optional, pencil, hot glue gun with glue - and lots of it!)
- decorationssssssss! (go crazy with these, okay? Pipe cleaners, pony beads, puffy paint, sparkly stickers, buttons....)

Okay, so you're going to want to start with the cardboard. Use a ruler to make two 3x3 squares, and then another two with a triangle on top (the triangled ones will be the front and back). Also cut two pieces for the top - 3x the length of top of your triangled piece. (was that confusing or what?!)

Trace those same pieces onto the brown foam and cut out.

#hotgluegun

Ready to glue this? REMEMBER TO ASK PERMISSION FROM AN ADULT BEFORE USING A HOT GLUE GUN. Please.

Please remember to match up the right cardboard with the foam before gluing it. Don't make the same mistake I did. *facedesk* Even if you measure it perfectly, there still might be variation.

(also, be warned that from now on, everything is in doll proportions. hot glue = icing, pipe cleaners = candy canes, pony beads = candy. I might give you a little help and give advice on how to make some stuff - anything in small print and small photos is tips)

Josie: Hey, Grace! Come 'ere! L4TL just left. Wasn't that weird?
Grace: Oooh, she left gingerbread pieces! Looks like a house kit to me.
Josie: Should we decorate it?
Grace: Totally! Grab an apron!

Josie: Here, hand me that thing of icing. We should go ahead and assemble it.

Another good idea is to trace the bottom AFTER you've assembled the rest, so you're sure it fits.

Grace: You know, it needs some candy cane pillars, don't you think?
Josie: Mmmhm.

Say, let's make some candy canes! Use red and white pipe cleaners and twist them together. Super simple, super cute~

Grace: *pipes on icing and smacks candy canes - broken into sticks, of course - onto house* Beautifullll!
Josie: *laughs* Uh... not quite yet, but we're getting there.

Grace: How about some pretty frosting trim?

Josie: Let's use these candies.
Grace: You know, shouldn't we invite the others to join us?

Josie: *adds candy* Absolutely not! This would be gone in seconds with Katie or Mia around!
Grace: *giggles* You're probably right. Hey, wouldn't little icicles look absolutely adorable?

Grace: *sticks on tic-tacs for icicles* It's looking so sweet!
Josie: Literally.

Grace: Hey, what if I try this pretty lacy technique that a friend in France taught me? I liked it a lot.
Josie: Okay! I'll go find some leftover scraps to make a chimney.
Grace: Here's a little bow for your chimney. I made it out of fruit leather.
Actually, Grace, that was a pipe cleaner and a pony bead, but...
Josie: Can I use the frosting for a minute? I wanna add some windows back here.

Grace: *crafts wreath and sticks to front window and door*
Josie: Do you have any peppermints over there?
Grace: *crunch* Gwaht?
Josie: Graace! You're as bad as Katie!
Grace: *finishes crunching* Here, there's still a few more.
Josie: Oh, remember those gingerbread men we made?
Grace: Oh, yes, yes, yes! Great minds think alike!

Josie: *steps back* Beautiful.
Grace: *admires gingerbread house* Adorable!

  1. YUM!!! That looks so so cute!!
    At the beginning of December, I actually had been planning to do a post on DIY cardboard gingerbread houses, but then my schedule messed up so I ended up taking that post off my list (seriously, I'm such a lazy blogger): but I still wanted to make a mini gingerbread house even though I wouldn't be making a post about it. I was looking for a good excuse to do so. And you've given me just that: a great excuse to waste my time doing a craft! *claps delightedly* *three cheers for CCC*
