------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a cheerful, sunny, perfect afternoon for.. a picnic! Rebekah and I - Melody, that is - prepared a perfect lunch. Sandwiches, veggies, fruit, dessert - it was going to be a simply splendid time! Rebekah rolled up a picnic blanket and I hoisted the basket on my arm.
"Let's go over there!" Rebekah led the way to a grass knoll.
"This basket is heavy!" I exclaimed as I followed her.
"I've actually never had a picnic before," I confessed, glancing down at the basket laden with food. It barely fit everything!
"Me neither," Rebekah responded absentmindedly, surveying the area for the perfect spot. She suddenly took off at a run, and I had to carefully chase after her without spilling everything and leaving it to the ants.
"Here! It's the most perfect spot!" Rebekah stood amidst several flowers and twirled around.
"Look at these darling things!" she exclaimed, referring to the little flowers.
She dropped the blanket and unrolled it, carefully avoiding the flowers so as not to crush them.
We sat down and I plopped the basket between us.
"Your lunch is on the top," I informed her. I had packed our lunch and prepared it - everything from making the bread to slicing the carrot sticks and rinsing the cherries.
"Thanks for making lunch!" she grinned and looked down at her napkin.
"Thanks for making the cookies!" I replied just as happily. Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite. Her plain sandwich was.. plain. Bread, cheese, ham, and mayo. I wrinkled my nose at the boringness.
Unwrapping my own sandwich, I heard Rebekah gasp and looked up to see her eyes as wide as saucers.
"What in the world.. How hungry are you?!" she giggled, offended my sandwich.
"Quite, thank you very much," I tipped my nose in the air, but joined her laughter. I liked the heel of the bread on the top, and I had added the thickest piece of cheese I could find. Add that to lettuce and tomatoes, and... well, yeah. My sandwich was pretty big.
I left my carrots and cookies for later in the basket but pulled out the bowl of cherries.
"I love cherries," I announced, popping one into my mouth. Suddenly, Rebekah frowned.
"Uh oh, I felt a drop." she brushed the rain off her ankle.
I looked up, slightly troubled. The formerly sunny sky was darkened, and my shoulders slumped. Surely it wasn't going to rain...
But puddles were forming.
"Save the cookies!" Rebekah exclaimed at the same moment I shouted "Save the cherries!" We dumped everything into the basket, scrunched up the blanket, and ran through puddles to the house, shielding the food from the rain.
Inside, the picnic blanket was abandoned on the floor.
"That nasty rain," I grumbled, plopping down on Rebekah's bean bag. "Why'd it have to rain today of all days? Now we have nothing to do!"
Well, besides eating cookies and cherries. The food was safe.
Rebekah flopped onto her bed upside down (which was quite uncharacteristic of her - her feet were propped up against the wall and everything!) and took a bite out of her cookie.
She stared up at the wall, thinking. Suddenly, she whirled around and sat up, nearly dropping her precious cookie.
"Melody, I have an idea!"

An idea? What was the idea?
*grins*
Well, we're still working on it. But it's definitely getting us through this rainy spell. You'll get to see what the idea is... in two weeks - make sure to check back then!
