life ~ a photostory

~ a life update in the form of a photostory ~ this is truly Julia's aesthetic, entirely by accident, most of her closet is blue and white stripes. she's always either wearing her airplane propeller necklace or her dream necklace, wearing double dutch braids.  Once upon a time, there was a girl named Julia. She was a dreamer, one with a good imagination and wide horizons. Some of her happiest days as a teenager were spent taking photos of dolls, lying in the street to get the perfect angle. Her dolls were like built in friends, companions wherever she went, on trips and vacations and outings.  As she grew up, Julia grew busier and busier, and high school was a lot of work. But she had goals and she did everything she could to reach them. One of them was graduating two years early, which took up a lot of time and energy. After hours upon hours of studying, she finally graduated.  Taking a gap year beginning in 2020, the weirdest year of the century, she had no lack o...

Camp Dolls N' All: Day 1, Welcome to Camp!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mia's POV
I was so glad I got to the office early. There was a long line behind me as I checked in.

"Hi, I'm Mia St.Clair."
This was my first year at Camp Dolls N' All, and I was both excited and nervous. I knew that the chances were that I'd be in the same cabin as several of my sisters, but...

I had packed everything suggested in my personalized bag that Julie had helped me make. It had a lot of traveling memories.

Everyone was instructed to bring their forms and consent and all the special letters and papers and stuff. Julie had helped prepare mine, and she was behind me with hers.

"Welcome to Camp Dolls N' All, Mia! I hope you have a wonderful week here."

Josie, the person in charge of the camp and everything, typed my information quickly into her laptop.

She entered everything into her books and pulled out a stack of cards.

"These are the name plaques - you're in Cabin..." Josie flipped through them and laid them out. "White Birch." She gave me directions, and instructed me to simply put out my bedding on the bunk I wanted and stick my name plaque at the foot of the bed.
I thanked her profusely, picked up my blankets and all, and walked out of the registration/office building.

I followed the directions given and quickly found Cabin White Birch, with its rustic wooden sign boldly announcing so.

I turned the corner and glimpsed my first view of camp. A thrill came upon me.

Two bare bunk beds gave the cabin the outdoorsy feel, with plain wood slats and burlap.

A crate with a slab of wood and a vase with a flower was a creative touch.

I surveyed the two bunks, seeing as how I was the first to arrive.

Of course, I was indecisive.

Finally, I chose the top bunk of the burlap beds. I slid my blanket and pillow on top...

... set my bag at the base...

.... stuck my name card on...

.. and then climbed up. After I spread out the blanket, I leaned back, tired from the long trip. This was going to be a good week, I could tell.

I crossed my feet, having taken off my sparkly pink shoes.

My things were neatly placed at the bottom where they were easily accessible. Just then, I heard footsteps.

"Hey, Ma!" Julie greeted, pushing her fuzzy bedding on the other top bunk.

"Hi, Jules!" It was nice to have someone I knew be the next one in. Julie had warned me that the majority of the campers would be the DNA family. I wasn't the only one to have this be my first year at camp, though - Kitrina and Madi had never come to camp before either!

Julie slapped on her card and headed over to the nightstand-like table.

Within a few minutes, a bottle of perfume, a fancy necklace, several things of makeup, and a brush were spread out. I watched from my bunk, amused. This was going to be interesting. How many rustic campers bring six things of nail polish and a makeup bag that weighs about as much as my backpack? Okay, so I do exaggerate a bit. :)

"So, are you excited for this week?" she asked, jumping up on her bunk and beginning to spread out her bedding.

"Yeah, I guess. What are we going to be doing?" I replied.

I was a bit surprised that Julie would put her shoes on her favorite blanket.

"Well, it always changes - every year. But typically, there's a day of sports, a day of the arts - music, dance, that sort of thing. And then there's a day of camping and a day for the final presentation and some other activities. I heard a rumor that we'll be doing a fashion show this year. That'll be fun."

Just then, she seemed to remember and sat up to undo her sandals.

With a careless toss, they landed on the floor below.

"So, what are you looking forward to the most?"

"Well... I was hoping we'd do dance." I admitted.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Last year they had square dancing and uh.... tinikling? Something like that. And another thing. I don't remember." Julie continued talking.

The next camper to join us was Samantha, who quietly spread out her bedding.

I was quite approving of her nice, neat mannerisms.

Samantha politely said hi, and then sat down with her journal.

A loud "HEY YA'LL!" sounded from the door.

"Fun, bunks!" she exclaimed. Evidently, our fourth camper was indeed..
Katie Kittredge.

Julie sat straight up, and Samantha watched as Katie threw her pillow and blankets on her bunk and then plopped down. Yes, this was going to be very interesting.

I heard a crinkling, a rip, and then smacking from the bunk below me. I poked my head down and saw Katie snacking on her favorite gummy bears.

I looked at my very different, very diverse cabin-mates.
Julie, listening to music on her phone. Samantha, writing neatly in her journal. Katie, with her legs propped up on the side of her bunk, chomping.
This was going to be an interesting week... if not disastrous.

Elizabeth's POV

I had left a note in our cabin for my new teammates to join me for a nature walk.

In the distance, Kit and Madi were headed my way. I wondered who the fourth person was going to be.

I heard footsteps approaching in the opposite direction and turned eagerly.

"Ohmygoodness!" A dazzling smile emerged from a blonde ponytailed girl.

"I hoped you would be in my cabin!" I squealed.

We embraced tightly.

After introductions, we headed down the trail.

"I've never been to camp before," Kit declared. Madi chimed in, "Neither have I."

We came upon an overgrown path, and headed down it.

"Do we do this every day?" Madi asked, looking down at her skirt.

We all laughed and treaded through the weed-filled path.

"I am so glad I have on boots," Madi chirped in a southern accent.
We continued...

On and on...

We came to a log. Kit plopped down, tired.

Madi and our fourth companion straddled the log.

I stood with everyone and then peered over to a valley.

"A bench!" I exclaimed. We all hopped up and headed over.

"It'll only fit three people." Kit surmised, her hands in her pockets.

Madi had already sat down, and Kit and I looked at our fourth friend.

"Well.." I mused.

"Ya'll sit down," came the advice.

We obeyed, and then watched as she whipped out her phone.
"This'll make a great camp selfie." she grinned.

We all were laughing so hard in the picture, that Noelle nearly rolled off.

It was definitely a good walk.

After dinner and everyone getting ready for bed, Cabin Dogwood was still talking late into the night.

"So like, last year, we had ballet. That was really fun. If there's that option again, I'm doing it." Noelle announced.

Soon, however, Josie came in and spoiled everyone's fun.
"Lights out, and mouths shut!" she declared. Everyone laughed.
"Good night, everyone!"
