life ~ a photostory

  ~ a life update in the form of a photostory ~ this is truly Julia's aesthetic, entirely by accident, most of her closet is blue and white stripes. she's always either wearing her airplane propeller necklace or her dream necklace, wearing double dutch braids.  Once upon a time, there was a girl named Julia. She was a dreamer, one with a good imagination and wide horizons. Some of her happiest days as a teenager were spent taking photos of dolls, lying in the street to get the perfect angle. Her dolls were like built in friends, companions wherever she went, on trips and vacations and outings.  As she grew up, Julia grew busier and busier, and high school was a lot of work. But she had goals and she did everything she could to reach them. One of them was graduating two years early, which took up a lot of time and energy. After hours upon hours of studying, she finally graduated.  Taking a gap year beginning in 2020, the weirdest year of the century, she had no lack o...

Camp Dolls N' All: Day 2, Dance, Drama, Music, and More!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Noelle, from Cabin Dogwood, stretched at the bar.
Her teammate, Elizabeth, stretched in her purple leotard that matched her purple bow.
Meanwhile, Juliette, from Cabin White Birch, chatted away.
In the corner, the last of the four dancers began putting on her special slippers - her very favorite satin ones.
Mia treasured her ballet shoes with upmost importance.
She wrapped it around her ankle and tied it in a perfect bow.
Mia tested the tightness, and then began to stretch with the rest of the girls.
The instructor asked everyone to go as far as possible in their splits. Noelle easily slid into the position, as did Mia. Julie and Elly, however had a bit of difficulty.
After a while, the four went to the barre to stretch some more.
"Ow, ow, ow," Jules complained.
"Oh, get over it, cuz." Noelle teased.
Obeying instructions, everyone lined up at the barre, their slippers neatly in a row.
Mia, perfectly turned out in first position, stood as a wonderful example at the head of the line.
Four buns bobbed as everyone did plies.
"How on EARTH are you supposed to do that?" Julie whined, attempting a first position plié.
Mia laughed and watched the mirror as she extended her pointed toes.
Elizabeth copied as best she could.
Next, they all stepped away from the barre and practiced pirouettes.
The instructor then wanted to see everyone's skills, so she asked each girl to perform a short routine, pulling up the music on her phone.
Elizabeth went first, and then Mia performed her recital piece.
As each girl was finished, they lined up against the wall.
Julie danced quickly.
Noelle mastered her pirouette while dancing to spirited piece by Rachmaninoff.
The teacher then wanted to teach the flower waltz from the Nutcracker Suite.
The four took their positions and followed instructions as the music began.
With a final bow, everyone heard a bell ring in the distance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
While two girls from each cabin were in dance class, the others went to music class.
Some played the violin, while others sang.
They were taught beginner violin, or intermediate, depending on previous skills.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the bell rang, Noelle panicked.

She quickly wriggled into her long sweatshirt-dress and hurried Elly along.

Elly slipped on the top she had brought along.

Before she ran out the door with Noelle so as not to be late, she made sure she looked fine in the mirrored wall.

The art studio was filled with all sorts of crafty items - beads, flowers, cord, wire, canvases, paint... the four from Cabin Dogwood conferred a while before deciding on a group project.

They all sat together, with a pile of supplies in the middle.

"So, like this?" Kitrina asked, holding up the measured length of cord.

"Yup," Noelle replied, finding the beads in front of her that she needed.
The four laughed and talked as they worked on one project. It didn't take very long, and so Noelle suggested a flowery idea.

------------------------------------------------------------------
When Cabin White Birch finally all assembled, they couldn't decide on one project.

So instead, Mia and Jules took the two canvases...

Katie got inspired by some leftover dolphin beads...

And Samantha worked with wire.

After the allotted time was up, they all had to present their works of art.

Cabin Dogwood had made matching macramé friendship bracelets!

And, to add to that effect, they all had made matching flower crowns!

They proudly displayed their work for Josie.

Next, Cabin Dogwood was represented by Samantha's impressive wrap bracelet that matched her t-shirt.

Mia and Julie created masterpieces on the canvases.

Katie's piece of 3D art is of a dolphin... made of dolphins!

So.... which team gets the points for the art challenge?

Next up was drama, a never before seen aspect of Camp Dolls N' All. The groups huddled, conferring over their choices - there was one specific guideline.

It had to be a scene from an American Girl book.

A little while later, Noelle approached the girls from Cabin White Birch.
"Um.. we were wondering if we could trade Madi or Kit for Julie. Josie said it's okay." she asked. Cabin White Birch discussed it for a little while, and then decided they would trade Julie for Madi...

the excerpts

Cabin White Birch had a head start - not only did they have their characters and outfits... they had traded for the best photographer in the camp.
