life ~ a photostory

~ a life update in the form of a photostory ~ this is truly Julia's aesthetic, entirely by accident, most of her closet is blue and white stripes. she's always either wearing her airplane propeller necklace or her dream necklace, wearing double dutch braids.  Once upon a time, there was a girl named Julia. She was a dreamer, one with a good imagination and wide horizons. Some of her happiest days as a teenager were spent taking photos of dolls, lying in the street to get the perfect angle. Her dolls were like built in friends, companions wherever she went, on trips and vacations and outings.  As she grew up, Julia grew busier and busier, and high school was a lot of work. But she had goals and she did everything she could to reach them. One of them was graduating two years early, which took up a lot of time and energy. After hours upon hours of studying, she finally graduated.  Taking a gap year beginning in 2020, the weirdest year of the century, she had no lack of other thi

Idaho Jane ~ June DOTM ~

.... I raced across the plains, the lion bounding after me. My only chance was to hide! But where?

Then I saw it! The perfect place!

I darted into the hollow of a tree, and watched the fearsome lion race past.

I was just about to go back to my camp, when I heard a sudden voice.

"Adi! What are you doing??" It was my roommate, Maryellen.

"Hiya, Ellie! I'm playing Idaho Jane!" I called back.

"Idaho who?" Ellie looked baffled. I grinned
"Idaho Jane! I used to play Indiana Jones, but he's a guy, and I can't very well play a guy if I have long hair, and Natalie won't let me cut it, so instead I play that I'm Idaho Jane!"

Being older, Maryellen rolled her eyes. ''Okay, fine, whatever, but what were you running from??'' She was starting to sound a little frustrated.

I grinned again. "A lion!" I replied.

At that point Ellie completely lost it. ''THIS IS THE RURAL EAST COAST! THERE ARE NO LIONS HERE!!!!!''

Score! I had driven Ellie crazy, and I wasn't even trying! But now was a good time to back down, lest she go nuts-er.

''Not an actual Lion, Ellie, a pretend one! Do you want to play too?'' I replied.

''Can I be the beautiful and Fashionable Princess you rescue from evil dukes?'' she asked.

''This isn't medieval times, Maryellen. Think of something modern to be.''

Maryellen looked a little put out at having her suggestion belittled, but she made another one. ''Ok, well, then, can I be a famous fashion model who you rescue?''

That suggestion was just too much. ''Ugh! NO. No fashion models allowed in Idaho Jane. That would be totally LAME.''
''HEY!! Fashion Models are AWESOME and you and your silly adventure game-thingys are lame!'' she retorted, yelling.

I yelled right back; ''My games are NOT lame! You and your stupid fashion stuff is just plain boring and DUMB and all you ever want to play is fashion model SO THERE!''

At that, Ellie swiveled around and started to stalk off.

''Where are you going?!'' I called after her.

''I was going to be nice and play with you, but since you feel like being a twerp, I'm going to go sit and think fashionable and pretty thoughts.''

"Well, THEN FINE! Go ahead! See if I care!!!!!"

And so I went and got to work building a shelter using a flipped over human chair thingamabob....

And Ellie sat.

But somehow, it just wasn't fun. No matter how awesome my shelter was, being a lone explorer was boring, and, well, lone.

I guess 'thinking pretty thoughts' was boring for Ellie too, because she kept looking at me.
And I looked at her.

And she looked at me.

Finally I couldn't stand it. ''Ellie, if you get to be a fashion model, will you play with me?''

"Okay."

Maryellen took charge right away; ''How about we have to be undercover at a venetian ball, because your arch nemesis, Duke Alerbrett Schwarzennegger is trying to steal the hostess's famed blue opal, worth a gazillion dollars?''

I decided that sounded good. A leafy tree gave me an idea. ''We have to dress up, and we can use those leaves. and sort of tuck them in our hair!''

Ellie darted to the tree and back in a flash, and started tucking leaves under the hairties in my braids.

Then I did the same for her bouncy ponytail.

Then we were ready. ''Okay, now we're in the ballroom, and we have to look natural while still keeping an eye on Schwarrzennegger!''

And, suddenly, we were there. The grass became a fancy floor, the lawn chair, a ballroom. The adventure began! It had everything an adventure needed; suspense, excitement...

And, of course, a good chase, because every good adventure needs that.

We were just about to catch Schwarzennegger when we heard Natalie calling;
''Ellie! Adalyn! Lunch!''

We turned to each other. ''Next time we play, it can be fashion.'' I offered.

''Ok, and then more Idaho Jane,'' she said sweetly.

''Friends?'' I asked.

''Friends.'' Ellie replied.
