life ~ a photostory

~ a life update in the form of a photostory ~ this is truly Julia's aesthetic, entirely by accident, most of her closet is blue and white stripes. she's always either wearing her airplane propeller necklace or her dream necklace, wearing double dutch braids.  Once upon a time, there was a girl named Julia. She was a dreamer, one with a good imagination and wide horizons. Some of her happiest days as a teenager were spent taking photos of dolls, lying in the street to get the perfect angle. Her dolls were like built in friends, companions wherever she went, on trips and vacations and outings.  As she grew up, Julia grew busier and busier, and high school was a lot of work. But she had goals and she did everything she could to reach them. One of them was graduating two years early, which took up a lot of time and energy. After hours upon hours of studying, she finally graduated.  Taking a gap year beginning in 2020, the weirdest year of the century, she had no lack of other thi

Camp Dolls N' All, Day 1, Part 1

Josie's POV: Sunday, August 7, 2016
2:32 p.m.

Holding the folder chock-full of papers and posters, I tacked up the posters in the registration hall for camp.
I was the Team Administrator for Camp Dolls N' All, which was a fancy name for the person in charge. It was my first year helping out and as I hung up the posters I started to get nervous about the next six days.
"It'll be fine," I told myself as I glanced out the window.
My desk was still a wreck and I hadn't gotten it straightened up.

"Next project," I kept talking to myself. "Okay, fine. I need to start on it."

Papers were strewn across my desk in my hurry looking for something.

Some of the pictures and order forms had fallen onto the floor beside my desk.

I tackled  my desk. Normally I was one of the neatest, but today was different. I was finally getting to do what I'd always wanted to!

Pictures that were sent by campers I stacked neatly on one corner.

All the loose catalogs and papers were stuck into my favorite bubble folder.

By 3:13, I had worked to straighten up my desk and it was finished!

Everything was neat and nice and in its place, just how I liked it. At 3:30, registration would start and I knew it would be busy.
The list of campers was carefully placed beside another stack of folders, files and more papers.

Half an hour later, the line was backed up to the door.
The line snaked around, some of the girls, including my adopted sisters, admiring and looking at the posters I had just hung up.

The first camper walked up.
"Welcome to Camp Dolls N' All!" I greeted her.

In my delay between which outfits I should pack, I ended up last in the line of campers registering. I spotted my sisters all up and down the row. I didn't recognize the first girl in line, however.

Elizabeth was looking at the posters on the wall, her dance duffel bag slung over her shoulder in a nonchalant manner.
I heard Josie begin her speech to the first girl.

"We'll be spending the next six days here at Camp Dolls N' All and once you are assigned to your team you can help assist your team in winning points towards the team prize! The winning team will be announced on Saturday."
The other girl replied, but I couldn't pick up her soft voice.
"What's your name?" Josie inquired in a friendly manner.

Katie, who was second in line, tried to tell me something, but I couldn't figure out what it was.
"Oh well," I muttered to myself as I unwrapped my favorite orange flavored candy.
I turned to the posters and almost fell in love with the baby sloth in one of the jungle photos.
"Hmm.." I mused as I looked at the different pictures. "Gymnastics- that should be fun."

I set my duffel bag by my feet as I approached the desk. The team administrator proceeded to tell me about the next six days that would occur at camp. I replied quietly, a bit shy.

"What's your name?" she asked.

"Noelle Lancer," I replied.
(Dun-dun-dun...)
I was at the front of the line, thankfully, and five other girls were lined up behind me. I didn't worry about meeting them, knowing I'd spend the next six days with them.

Josie reached down and asked me a few more questions before writing something down quickly.

"Well, Noelle, I'm sure you'll have a great time! There's something here for everyone! Academics...
...spa fun and pampering...

... and art!"
She pulled a name tag off a sticker sheet and handed it to me.

"Thanks," I managed a small smile. Already I was a bit homesick.
"Your cabin is the one to the left, right out that door." Josie smiled back and pointed to a nearby exit.
"Thanks... again," I murmured, and then stepped away.

As I stepped away, I already missed my mom and my own bedroom. I sighed and headed down the hall.

Even as I walked away, I heard Josie beginning with the next girl.
"Okay, Noelle," I said to myself. "This will be tons of fun." I tried to convince myself. My thoughts were, 'But you don't know anyone- what if you fail your team?'
I stepped into the ladies' room.

Josie's POV, Sunday, August 7, 2016

I handed Katie her sticker and she proudly placed it on her dress.
"I'm super excited about camp," Katie grinned, her freckles standing out on her face.
"I'm sure you'll have a great time!" I replied as she walked away.

Samantha, Katie's best friend, walked up next lugging a huge suitcase.
"Hi Samantha! Welcome to Camp Dolls N' All!"
I welcomed her.

"Hi," she replied quietly. "Oh, and don't worry. This is my luggage and Katie's."
"That's fine," I glanced down at my ledger. "In fact, you're in the same cabin!"
I took the next sticker off the sheet and handed it up to her.
"Thanks Josie!" Sam grinned and headed down towards the cabins.
I took pictures of Elizabeth in front of the wall, and Amelia too.
Soon I was down to the last camper.

I tossed the candy wrapper into the trashcan and approached Josie.
"Welcome to Camp Dolls N' All, sis." she dropped the formalities. "I'm guessing that you don't really want to hear my whole invitation pitch, right?"
"Exactly!" I exclaimed, knowing that my sister knew me well. "Thanks to all the others, I think I might be able to do it just as well as you!"

Josie laughed, and then reached for the last name tag, with my name on it, 'Juliette Albright'.

"Your cabin is the one on the left- enjoy!"
I walked away, leaving Josie to rearrange her desk.

Elizabeth's POV, August 7, 2016
I walked into the cabin after making a detour to the vending machine and found Julie already stocking the top shelf in the dresser.
"Wow, really?" I teased, knowing her perfectly well- especially since we had to share a room. She always hogged the top shelf for her cosmetics.
"At least I remembered my hairbrush." Julie retorted playfully, referring to the time when I went on vacation with some friends for three days and left my hairbrush on my desk.
"Very funny," I replied, hauling my big duffel bag into the corner.

"I'm gonna go see if Josie's posted the teams yet. This time I'm not going to be the last in line." I laughed.

"I like our cabin." I murmured, glancing around at the fold down bed and the blue dresser.
I set our suitcase down and motioned to Katie.

"I'm coming!" she replied. "Of course I want to see the team rooster!"
"That's roster, not rooster," I corrected her. "Cockle-doodle-doo!"

 Elizabeth's POV, Sunday, August 7, 2016

A knock was heard on my cabin door. "Come in!" I called.
The door opened and there stood a young girl in the doorway.

"Noelle?" I gaped, dropping my duffle bag with a thud.

"Elizabeth?" she gasped, her own bag abandoned at her feet.
"It's you!" we both cried as we ran to each other and hugged.

"I can't believe it's you," I whispered, a tear trickling down my face.
"Me neither," Noelle replied softly. "It's been months since we've seen each other! I was worried I wouldn't know anyone here. I didn't recognize the girl behind me, at least."

"I've missed you so much!" I replied. "The girl behind you was my new, er, newest, sister, Katie Kittredge. She was adopted in May!"
"It's so great to see you!" Noelle gushed. "I sure hope we're on the same team!"

"Come on!" I exclaimed, grabbing Noelle's arm after glancing at the time. "Josie should have the teams posted in two minutes!"
"Let's go!" Noelle smiled.

We ran down the hall just in time. Josie was just approaching the Weekly Announcements Bulletin Board.

"She's posting them!" Noelle whispered into my ear, gripping my hand.
Everyone was crowded around the board, straining to see.
Josie reached over and tacked up a blue piece of paper.
A small hum of whispers filled the room as she reached... reached...

And tacked it up. We went wild with excitement as everyone pushed to see.
